Founder & Psychotherapist

Founder & Psychotherapist

Keith Raymond, the founder and business owner of Social Justice Therapy LLC, is a licensed psychotherapist dedicated to fostering meaningful connections with his clients. He uses a person-centered approach and embodies genuineness, empathy, and acceptance—qualities essential for building rapport and trust with the individuals he is honored to work with. This foundation allows him to tailor his integrative therapy approach by combining various treatment modalities while maintaining a strong commitment to a social justice orientation.

Keith's practice is deeply rooted in culture-centered and strength-based approaches (e.g., Intersectionality Theory, Critical Race Theory, and Black Feminist Theory). By honoring and empowering his clients' cultural identities, he creates a therapeutic space that reflects their experiences and is responsive to their unique needs. This personalized approach enables him to work with children, adolescents, adults, and families, and it has proven effective in addressing a wide range of challenges, such as anxiety, depression, complex relationship dynamics, and life transitions.

Keith's work epitomizes the intersection of clinical practice and social justice advocacy. As a dedicated mental health professional, he understands that effective counseling extends beyond individual sessions—it requires a commitment to reshaping the policies that govern access to mental health services, which is a fundamental right.

Keith's experience extends to academia, where he is a counselor educator teaching graduate-level counseling students. His approach is informed by his passion for fostering diversity and inclusion in mental health education, ensuring his students are well-trained to serve diverse populations. Keith leads by example, mentoring emerging mental health professionals and encouraging them to adopt an advocacy-oriented mindset. He firmly believes that by advocating for systemic change, enhancing cultural competence, and supporting those historically underserved, the mental health field can evolve into a more just and equitable space for all.

Questions & Answers

Do you offer counseling sessions online or in-person?

At Social Justice Therapy, we offer both virtual and in-person counseling sessions.

Can I work with a therapist at the practice if I do not reside in New Jersey, New York, or Rhode Island?

At Social Justice Therapy, our therapists are dedicated to delivering high-quality mental health support while following legal and ethical guidelines. According to the law, therapists are legally required to work only with clients in the same jurisdiction where they hold their professional license. This law applies to both in-person and virtual sessions. Ensuring that our therapists and clients share the same jurisdiction is vital for maintaining compliance with state licensing laws and providing appropriate care for each client's unique context. We appreciate your understanding of this important policy matter.

What can I anticipate during the intake session?

Paperwork: Prior to the intake session, the client will provide their insurance information and credit or debit card details to be kept on file, as well as complete the onboarding intake and consent forms to schedule an appointment.
Confidentiality: The therapist will explain the limits of confidentiality and privacy in therapy.
Background Information: The client will be able to provide general background information, reasons for seeking therapy, and any present concerns.
Therapeutic Approach: The therapist will explain their counseling style and treatment methods and provide information about the therapeutic process.
Treatment Goals: The client will collaborate with the therapist to discuss their goals for therapy.
Treatment Preferences and Expectations: The client will have the opportunity to openly share their preferences and expectations for therapy to determine the best fit and the most appropriate level of care that meets their needs.

Will my sessions at Social Justice Therapy remain confidential?

Our professional team maintains confidentiality for all clients, except in specific circumstances that necessitate breaching this confidentiality. These scenarios include situations involving a risk of harm to the client or others, cases of suspected or confirmed child or elder abuse, or situations mandated by law. It is crucial for clients to understand that their safety and well-being, along with the safety of others, are prioritized in these situations. In all other cases, clients can expect their personal information to remain private and secure, fostering a trusting therapeutic relationship.

Will you coordinate care with my healthcare providers?

Social Justice Therapy prioritizes a holistic and collaborative approach to mental health care. With explicit client consent, we work closely with your healthcare providers—including primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and other specialists—to comprehensively understand your needs. This integrative method allows us to combine our therapeutic insights with medical expertise, enhancing the effectiveness of your treatment plan.

What are the ‘No Surprises Act’ and ‘Good Faith Estimate’?

The No Surprises Act, effective January 1, 2022, protects patients from unexpected medical bills from out-of-network care. It prevents higher charges for emergency services from out-of-network providers and non-emergency services at in-network facilities unless patients give prior consent. The law promotes clear healthcare costs, allowing patients to better predict their expenses.

A Good Faith Estimate is required under this act, mandating healthcare providers to give patients a cost estimate for services before treatment. This estimate must be provided in a timely manner, helping patients make informed choices about their care and costs. It outlines expected charges, any adjustments based on insurance, and potential additional costs. This initiative is necessary for fostering transparency and accountability within the healthcare system, leading to a more equitable and patient-centered approach to medical care.

For further details about the No Surprises Act and its implications, please consult the information available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services at https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises

What are your rates for counseling sessions?

The rates for sessions at Social Justice Therapy are as follows; however, they are subject to change, and clients will be notified of any adjustments. The rates do not include sales tax, processing fees, and additional charges. All fees are due at the time of service.

Estimated Charges for Counseling Services:

Individual Session:

60-Minute Counseling Session: $175 per session

45-Minute Counseling Session: $150 per session

Couples Session: $200 per session

Family Session: $200 per session

Clinical Supervision: $80 per session

Do you accept health insurance?

We are an Out-of-Network Provider, and we can provide you with a detailed receipt of payment for services, commonly referred to as a “superbill.” You can submit this documentation to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to inquire about your Out-of-Network Benefits.

Which insurance providers do you currently accept?

Social Justice Therapy is in-network with United Healthcare, Cigna, and Aetna in New Jersey, offering high-quality care to its members. If your insurance company denies benefits or does not pay for any reason, you are responsible for the remaining balance. A pre-certification does not guarantee payment of benefits. We appreciate your understanding.

Will you accept additional insurance providers in the future?

As Social Justice Therapy expands, we aim to increase healthcare coverage and make mental health care more accessible for clients.

Do you offer a sliding scale to reduce the cost of sessions?

Please contact Social Justice Therapy directly for detailed information about our sliding scale options or to inquire about pro bono sessions on a case-by-case basis, depending on availability. Your mental health matters; we are here to help you find the right support and resources.

What is Social Justice Therapy's cancellation policy?

Our practice requires a 24-hour notice for rescheduling or canceling an appointment. If a session is canceled on the same day or you miss your appointment, clients will be charged a $75 fee. This fee cannot be billed to your insurance company and will be your direct responsibility. This policy allows us to maintain a schedule that respects the time of both clients and therapists. Thank you for your understanding.
